Well really not a cabinet but a bed platform. I used Birch wood and ply. I was talked into using a water based stain. Pine color, happy with the color but it seemed that it really lifted the grain. Being it was so light in color I couldn't really sand it out. I used a rattle can min wax varnish in gloss. All the rest will be done with a spray gun. All said and done I'm very happy......
From the pix it looks good. Lifting grain is why I'm never too keen on water based stains. Oil based stains don't have that problem. I have used water based poly after an oil based stain and it doesn't have that problem since the oil has already sealed the grain to some extent.
Thanks Steve but I saved all the old cabinets for patterns. I should've just done what you're doing by reskinning them. But that would make to much since......
not sure about that removing the original skin isn't that easy, if I had it to over again not sure what path I would take. I'm sure that it would be much easier to just duplicate the pieces, but I have never taken the easiest path.
Anyway you first piece of furniture looks great! cannot wait until we can sit them side by side!
PS what serial number is yours?
