Post DIY: Colored Storage Doors

So this is an experiment at the moment. Somewhere across the interwebs we came across a photo of one of the later smaller Airstreams with colored windows, rather than the standard white frosted. So while browsing ebay I came across rolls of colored Window film 26x50 for $8.25 with free shipping.

SOLD!

Tonight, we did the test application of the window film on one of the panels for over our sink. Tomorrow we'll take it to the Airstream to see how it turns out.

It's a red color, and the lighting in my house makes it look darker/oranger than it is, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Our interior color is Parpika, so kind of going for something to match that vibe.

If the wife and I like it, I'll be following this up with a full HOW TO and list of supplies.

For now, photos:

Your username says it all - BOLD!!! At first I thought you had gone overboard with the red on the ceiling too but on second look I saw that it was the reflection. That is an awesome touch, very cool and personal... love it!

How did you get the panels out of the slider?
Thanks,
Kate

There is more room for the panels at the top than the bottom. So with two fingers in both ends of a panel, lift up till it won't go up and push the bottom towards the back of the cabinet and it will pop and drop out. Installation is the reverse.

Thanks for the comments. It creates a pretty unique ambience at night. And anyone familiar with astronomy should know, the red is easy on the eyeballs in the dark.
