Countertop Choices
Im looking to replace all counters in my 89 34ft Limited. I want to find something that looks good and fits to a western / texas style , but also does not brake the bank. Any suggestions? corian vs laminate vs engineered stone ? thoughts?
thanks

Flamed plywood with edge trim coated in bar top epoxy resin. Sounds Texas/Western to me.
Or nailed down zinc fun.

You could use plywood then hammer flat a bunch of aluminum beer cans.. Texas beer cans, of course... then coat with the bar epoxy..

Another 'option'.... get some high quality stainless steel, then 'dress' it with an automotive sanding disc... it make really bold 'swirls'... then you can coat with the 'bar coating'....
Or, how about getting some old barn wood, glue to the plywood, then coat... http://www.old-barn-wood.com

We used Marmoleum flooring. Looks great, cleans up with a damp rag. Lots of styles/colors.

Thanks guys for the tips so far. Whenever I replace the counters I actually plan on matching the bathroom , bedroom , dinette and living room table .. That's why I thought of manufactured stone , solid surface or a good laminate . The easy part on laminate would be , that I can overlay the existing laminate .. But I still think laminate does not look as good as solid surface or stone . I do like the idea of marmoleum and would like to see a picture on it . Thanks again

Have you heard of Wilsonart?
Quartz, Laminate, Solid Surface Countertops and Metal Art | Wilsonart
Little Texas company, making high end goods. When you drive by you can't even smell the place like some other factories once were.
I have used their stuff for all my home improvement projects with exception of the last one which used granite in my home.

Consider the added weight of solid countertops.

I'll check on Wilson art . See what pricing they have . Thanks. In regards to weight : if I use manufactured stone , it would be very thin with a metal backing . I have seen this before . Alternative I have seen real stone with the honey comb backing . This is light weight as well but expensive :-)

When we did ours we went from Curava (resin/glass - manufacterer couldn't guarantee it wouldn't crack), Corian (used in some models but cracks reported) to laminate which allowed us to match the night-stand, dinette table and fridge door to the counters. So I would vote for laminate. Some of the high end laminates are available with profiled edging if if installed properly are almost identical in look and feel to machined stone/synthetic.

Thanks a lot , that helps . Do you guys think, I can just lay over the existing laminate with new one ? It would surely help on the nightstand and the dining table ? Kitchen need to be replaced cause it is slight warped and bath was rotted out cause it got wet :-)

You can lay over top of existing as long as the existing is not peeling.

I used the Wilsonart Winter Carnival with the crescent edge in my coach remodel. It seriously looks like granite. Check it out.

There are sources that will sell solid-surface materials and tools to DIYers. But only if you’re talking about the acrylic material (like Wilsonart, Avonite and Meganite), rather than “engineered stone” (quartz/resin) products like Cambria and Silestone. Engineered stone materials are only available through authorized dealers and are custom made for each job. DIYers can buy solid-surface materials at wholesale prices from solidsurface.com. It sells surplus and discontinued sheets from several major manufacturers so colors are limited to on-hand.
Full-sheet sizes vary but are usually 30 in. x 144 in. x 1/2 in. (partial sheets are typically half that size). The square-foot prices vary by pattern and manufacturer, ranging from $10 to $20 per sf plus shipping ($150 to $300, depending on your location); clearance priced pieces run ~$7 sf. The total is about one-third of what you’d pay an authorized dealer if they would even sell to you. Solidsurface.com also carries the special adhesives you’ll need for the joinery. You’ll have to spend about $250 for special tools and materials.

We used American Walnut butcher block in kitchen (that could be western style???) and bamboo in the bathroom (waterproof, but still retained the "wood" look). I also love Corian...just was too much of a pain dealing with Corian installers and getting templates to the factory. Photos of our A/S counters are below. Good luck with the renovation!!!

That counter sure looks nice . Thank you for posting it. It would be Alan alternative to using laminate though .. I already steered away from corian. and was looking at Wilson art laminate choices .

Here's the real linoleum that we're using in our trailer. We have it in our home's kitchen on the floor and as a counter top. Love it.

here is a picture of our marmoleum countertop, I had to take Pam to a Starbucks to show her how well it held up on their counters, We love it. We were able to get remnant in Portland. I like the Idea of putting it on the table top, I may just do that with the remain piece I have left.
