Change Bedroom from double to 2 twins

Does anyone have any pictures of a middle bedroom with 2 twin beds on a mid 70s unit? I have a 1976 Argosy 26 that I want to change from a "fold-out" double to 2 twin beds... Need some ideas and pictures so I can make the new bed.

Thanks

I would check into your tank situation before attempting to change your lay-out. You could also consider bunk beds, if its for your kids. This is a picture of how I modified one of the twin beds in a 79 28' Motorhome to also serve as a couch with a small computer desk, that completely folds away under the mattress.

If you go to twins you will give up most of your storage. In many of the twins the kitchen is moved forward an extra foot to provide a small closet at the end of each bed. In the double the storage is all across the isle from the bed.

Honestly, it would probably be better to find a slightly wider "RV double" mattress, and build a frame for it. You will give up quite a bit of walking room, but you will retain your storage, and have a larger fixed bed.

Take a look at the Albatross and you will see what my husband did to convert from a double to twins.

You might also contact Airstream and see if they have a schematic of the bedroom. Not sure if they have one going back that far but it's worth a quick email. If you go to their contact us page on their website and give them the year, model, and vin, they may have something on file you could use.

You have 18 pages of "stuff" on the Albatross. Any idea what page the twin bed pics are on? I found a pic of incomplete bed frame on#111, would be great to see completed bed frame.

Sorry so late...I just noticed this comment tonight and I can take pictures of the frames for you. Do you just want a picture of the wood part without the mattress or do you want more detail of how the mattress fits in? Let me know and I will get the pictures for you.

Here are a few quick ones I snapped when it was getting pretty dark out. Hope this helps-if not I can take others. Let me know.

Great pics. Thanks. If you have pics of the frame, would also be helpful. I for one am not a wood worker guy, visuals are very helpful.

If you look at post 111, 119, and 203 you might see what you are looking for on the bed construction. He basically built a frame over the wheel wells and made the frame front on the outside of the bed frames. It is not difficult construction but he took the time to make sure everything was going to be strong enough to take the beating of the road.

I can look back in my photo collection and see if I can find any other additional pictures that I didn't post before that might help you. I will try to post them as soon if I can find them.
