As promised, we are making a lot of progress on the prototype bench. Please bear in mind that I have never physically seen the dinette in the CCD. The prototype that we are making, is simply a rendering of what I believe the bench is like from looking at the photograph on Airstream's web site and taking the 39" width dimension which they list as well.
If the bench turns out to be a success, we will change our prototype to be an identical match to Airstream's. With that said, I am attaching a few photos.
Joshua that seems to be a really nice bench - beautiful woodwork AND at the same time simple, clean and thus (at least to me): modern lines.
May I suggest that you take care of an entire trailer ?
Remember CCD was succesfull this way, too: Now there's the CCD-line.
So why not proposing a successor to the current safari-line or the classics?!
I'm sorry I don't understand.
I thought you had another AS, not a CCD yet. Isn't your 25'CCD in order with delivery December?
You already decided to replace the bench and got it done? Wow, you're fast!
We're not happy with our benches either (besides how they mounted them). The entire set up of this new dinette does not work as well as a bed as the previous did.
My younger sister tried sleeping there for 3 nights and lamented back pain every morning "it's like sleeping on a tiny bridge, my back is arched!" We tried it ourselves and boy she was right. The pillows really don't compensate for tha 1.5" on both sides.
Is this why you're redesigning the benches? Are you also taking care of this problem? If you are, we'd really be interested in your ideas. Besides the fact yours look 100% better!
...we temporarily solved the problem with 2 pieces of wood...ugly.
I currently do not own an Airtsream but do have one on order.
Regarding the bench, the only reason I decided to start working on a prototype, is because I am in the furniture manufacturing business and I thought the wood veneer bench would give a unique look to the CCD.
I have never seen an actual CCD bench so I am unsure of the exact dimensions. I merely produced this prototype off of the dimensions listed on the Airstream website and photos that I saw. I wanted to see what a wood veneer bench could look like.
After I receive my new unit, I will then decide if I want to replace the benches with my bench.
Regarding the bench as a sleeping surface, I never even thought of using it for that purpose. I may consider making a few changes in the future, but for right now, I am just looking to duplicate the function and look of the current bench.
I should have some more pictures up in the next few days.
That bench looks great! I am in the process of doing some furniture for our trailer and was wondering how you made that. What sort of epoxy or glue did you use and what width pywood. I could make one out of fiberglass but that looks way easier.
