Cabinetry, solid wood, tambour or other

Solid wood
Tambour
Other (aluminum etc, please explain below).

I'm not a fan of the tambour drawers and doors. Too many probs with sticking, misalignment, lost bins, etc. What is your ideal cabinetry?

The tambour is a great idea, in theory. Lightweight, wouln't split or crack, has the ability to open up large areas for access. Frankly, Airstream's execution was pretty poor. The bins tend to be very space inefficient, and there is a lot of wasted space in the areas used for spiral rolls.

I have replaced all the tambour in my coach with oak rail and stile doors or with ordinary drawers, except the bathroom cabinet. The tambour there works well, and if it ever causes a problem I will definitely rebuild with new tambour.

Looking to the future, some bright person will figure out someday that travel trailers are not minature houses. Storage in general and cabinets in particular need serious rethinking. The Dean CCD is a step in a new direction, but I am not sure it is quite the path I want to follow.

My kitchen tambours were missing. The PO replaced with cheap paneling sliding in the grooves and that was falling apart.

I replaced with 1/2" birch and stained. I am NO woodshop guy at all so you can probably do a much better job than mine.

You can see a picture at my website. The before picture is terrible, since I did not know it was going to be a before picture when I took it

The rest of the bottom tambours were broken or missing and I have not done anything there other the get rubbermaid bins that fit those locations.

Luckily the top tambours seem to work after some silocone spray.

The bathroom tambour works very poorly. But there does not seem to be a better solution since we shower in there.

Solid wood, but not the heavy looking residential type with raised moldings...I like the simpler clean lines of the 60's and some of the newer ones, The CCD ones are pretty cool too IMHO.

I also like the interiors of the current Safari and the International AS. Wilsonart Tropical Oak laminated surfces with rounded corners. European type concealed hinges. Bulletproof as regards to scratches, although Airstream still seems to have minor problems with edges such as the edges of my bathroom door. Maintanence consists of wiping the walls and cabinets down with furniture oil on a rag.

Given the option, I would choose the CCD flooring over carpet.
