Are these still made?

This is a plastic hinge on our table top. I debated just going with a one piece top but after camping in it twice now we kind of like the hinged set up. We're putting new P-Lam on the table to match the counters (installed previously) and I might want to put a new hinge. Any ideas?

Could a slight mod be made and utilize a piano hinge. Long ones are available at HD and other big boxes out of aluminum and brass and steel that can be cut down to any size.

I thought of using a piano hinge but I believe that the hinge portion would have to sit above the plane of the table when it is folded out, and I was trying to avoid any un-eveness in the top.
Am I not thinking clearly? (It's not an unusual event)

Perhaps the pic it deceiving, but I don't think so. Could we see more views of the way it folds out ? Are we looking at the laminated top surface or the bottom?

I think the material is the same type that is used on the "Fold-a-boat" product. Basically gets stronger as it's used, up to a point. This particular hinge is over 40 years old and is still holding in there, but I need to remove it to put it on a new top, so I'm not sure if I will be able to salvage it. I'll post some more pictures tomorrow.

I've used Soss hinges in the past on commercial buildings, I'll check one out. Maybe a trip to Rockler is called for.

Thanks as always

You can get plastic hinges like the original from McMaster-Carr ( McMaster-Carr ). Just type "plastic piano hinges" into the FIND field.

You can use a piano hinge but the edges will have to be attached to the ends of the table instead of the top or bottom. Depending on the type, of wood the screws may not hold well. It looks like what they did was use a T-moulding slot cutter and they hinge attaches like the T-moulding edge trim. If you remove the old hinge the slot might not be tight enough to hold the new hinge. My table folds out like that. Let me take a look how it is done.
