'65 Safari Formica? Speckles?

I finally have time today to do clean up in the Safari--pulled the old indoor/outdoor carpet out.

just finished cleaning the bathroom--the last step was to use bleach to get the mold off of the formica wall--but is this mold? It won't come off.

so I tried on the sink cover next--poured straight bleach on it--it's getting whiter, but those speckles--are they part of the pattern?

I thought it was white with gold marbling--there's tons of mold in the trailer so I assumed the black speckles on all the formica were mold--they look like black pepper scattered pretty evenly over the surface--and they don't come off, so if it is mold we need new formica.

eek!

I don't know about the 65's, but my 60 has gold and silver sparkles in the floor. They were really into that stuff at that time.

When you run your fingers over the surface is it smooth? Usually mold or dirt will be able to be felt.

oh, yeah, good thinking, silvermoon--maybe it's the silver speckles and they've gone black. It's definitely smooth.

it just looks crappy, though--maybe after everything is clean it'll look better--but I dunno--i think I'm gonna have to get new counter tops--which i certainly didn't plan on.

Before you do that try a Mr. Clean Eraser on it. I use them on alot of stuff at the daycare I run. They even take crayon and ink off walls and toys. I used one on my old popup walls and they did a pretty good job of taking off the mildew. Goodluck Mizlann

They used a speck paint back in those days. It is supposed to look like that. Purist get real upset when some people paint them over. Do what looks best to you. After all it is your little home and you are not interested in resale price anyway.
