50s Cabinet hardware

Would anyone have any spare cabinet hinges and latches from a prior restoration that they would like to sell or go to a loving home?

I'm looking for the oddie quarter turn latches that were used in the 50s by airstream.

Thanks,

Doug

Doug,

Have you tried Restoration Hardware?

restoration HW

Haven't tried there yet. I spoke to the company in the UK, Oddie Fasteners, who made these and they were discontinued back in the 60s. Also were used on some UK sport cars for the glove box, but have not found any that way either.

I'll see if restoration has an option. I'll also put some pics up later this week.

Someone, might have been Mark Witrakis, had a beautiful picture of one in his photo gallery a few days ago.

. . . and without his permission I will post a link to it:http://picasaweb.google.com/Speymn/T...77164714885138

Doug -
All the knobs in my 59 Tradewind are present and operational. I'll rummage through a couple of (unopened) boxes of stuff that came with the trailer today on the chance that I may have some "spare parts" hidden in there.

Doug -

Sorry, no luck with the hunt for spare hinges. Thanks for the info on "Oddie Fasteners" in UK. The 1959 A/S catalog touts "Imported 'Sta-Closed' closet catches" among the standard features for my trailer.

The oddies are really hard to come by.

We were thinking of adding a few more cabinets to our 61 Overlander that has the white Oddie Latches and like you went on the hunt. This time last year there was a gentleman in Arizona somewhere parting out a 59 Caravaner...when I inquired on how much he would like for the latches I just about fell off my feet.

$25 Us Each - not a set - each component the knob $25 and the receiver $25 yep that amounted to 50US a set which back then was about 75CAD. Needless to say - someone with money got them .

Unfortunately the ones in our Overlander are spoken for -as we have decided to go with all new hardware - more along the lines of the brass ship latches to better suit the nautical theme we are planning.

However - Out of curiosity - how many would you need???

Based on your price list $100 worth 2 knobs and 2 receivers.

Okay, so I found a source.

Good news = They have some "Special" & "Old Models" that look like the right thing.
Bad News #1 = Looks like you have to order 100 pieces
Bad News #2 = They are in the Netherlands

Oddie Fasteners

Shari - no matter the day the time the place you never stop amazing me!!! PS I still have not sent that damn tray - you will probably change your decor by the time I get it sent or hook up with you.

It is not bad news on either count - as I am sure we would have orders here that would eat up the 100 in no time.

That works out to about $9.50US a set (I assume that the receiver plate is included - as per the picture) plus whatever taxes and shipping.Looks like the black knobs - but if people want white they can be dipped no problem.

There are several people I have been in touch with overseas - a couple were intersted in buying our GT. I am sure they would help us out in the ordering - if people were interested. They are from the Netherlands.

Doug - I know - the price was nuts (and no way I would even consider charging that.) When we were thinking of replacing our old ones the thought of a can of spray paint would do the trick in restoring them at $4.00 came to mind immediately.

Kudos Shari
