2005 International CCD cabinet hinge problems - or are we just stupid?

Hey friends! When you can't figure it out, hit up the Forum!

Our 2005 International CCD has the modern style interior, including these white melamine cabinets. So the "main" cabinet, as in the largest one, which is right under the sink has had problems since the day we got it!

It always swings open and falls halfway off, despite the fact that I replaced the latch and always secure and double-check it. Basically when we enter the AS after driving, that cabinet door will always be hanging off by the bottom hinge only and contents strewn about the cabin.

Obviously, I always snap the hinge back on and jiggle a little to test that it"snapped" and it does but whenever I even just open the cabinet, the top hinge comes apart.

My concern is that I'm missing some little "secret" about how to re-fasten the hinges. But I'm beginning to doubt that because it really does click into place and appears to be secure. But then it comes off again.

Is there some trick? Or are these hinges just done for?

And, I'm concerned about replacing the hinges because the door is melamine - I won't be able to screw new ones in, right?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, as always,
Gina

Hi Dan,

She's packed up and back in the storage facility for the time being but next time we take her out, I'll snap a photo and post it. Thanks!

We have an 05 Bambi Safari. The cabinet hinge screws work loose when travelling, and the doors flop around when opening or closing. Are these hinges Blums? Ours say GRASS on the outer mounting assembly. We could use a few spares!

Grass is another brand that is cheaper than Blum. You can screw in again to the melamine doors. Get a toothpick and wood glue. Break off the toothpick in the hole with a little wood glue (or elmers) on it and the screw should stay tight.

Go this link: www.wbcci.org. Click on WBCCI Technical Committee. You'll find an article -- "Adjusting, Changing and Maintaining the Latches and Catches on your Airstream"

Good Luck.

I have the 05 CCD - hinges work loose all the time but most of the time I just tighten them up.

However, one hinge is now toast. The door side hinge part just keep coming off the cabinet base side - so either the cabinet mount little lip the door hinge side fits onto is worn off or down - or it is the door side hinge inside that is worn - either way I guess I will need to get a new set for the whole door.

Are they the standard ones you can get at home depot? Planning to take the hinge both sides off and take it with me.... What a pain it was during my holiday - thank goodness it was just the last week - I would have ripped the door off - but we travel with a cat and he can get behind the taps and into the wall - eek that would be a nightmare!
