'80 Caravelle

Does anybody out there own one of these? I just bought one and there seems to be little info on them past 1976. I know that the name changed from Carvel to Caravelle and got longer sometime during the late 70's. Just wanted to share some thoughts with anyone who also claims one of these as there little peice of heaven.

Whisperwoman,
I just inherited a 1980 22 foot caravelle and am beginning to explore whether to keep it or sell it, much depending on how difficult/expensive restoration will be. I have contacted an airstream workman/restorer here in Maryland and am waiting for a call back. Good luck with yours.

Hi there,

I own a 1980 20' Caravelle. I love the size and towability. How much restoration does yours need?

80 Caravelle

Greetings Scott!

Your Caravelle looks like an easy refurbish from the surface. It has the same basic floorplan as the 6.7 Metre Minuet that was discontinued with Argosy production at the end of the 1979 model year. I suspect that if you measure the width of the floor, you will find the coach to be very close to 7' wide -- if Airstream was actually using the Minuet as the model -- the tandem axle would not be found on the 6.7 Metre Minuet, however.

One thing is certain, you won't find a sibling to your coach at every Rally as it seems the Caravelle was only offered in 1980.

Good luck with your project!

Kevin

P.S.: I wouldn't be surprised if most everything in the interior is original except for possibly the lounge upholstery. I am almost certain that the carpet is original as that exact carpet was OEM on my '78 Minuet.

Ed actually contacted me and I thought, from is description, that not a ton might be needed to get her going again. Very clean looking rig.

I just got a 22 foot 1980 Caravelle. Looks like the floorplan was modified from Scoteagle. It has a front dinette/bed combo. It has a small "lounge" sofa along one wall but a second cabinet and counter space was added next to it. I found a copy of a brochure from the 1980s and the floor plan doesn't show that. Scoteagle, yours looks in nice condition!
