1980 Caravelle Shell Off Renovation

Disclaimer: I’m going to talk about composting toilet stuff so stop reading if you do t want to know. The main reason I love our composting toilet is that we have room for a 40 gallon grey tank in a 20’ trailer and it uses essentially zero of our fresh water.

Made a few modifications to our C-Head composting toilet system. Since we have 32 gallons of fresh water capacity and a 40 gallon grey tank, we decided to divert the urine into the grey tank directly. I wanted a clear downhill path with a 1 way valve so I added a Hepvo valve and made all the plumbing go downhill at a 20degree angle. The #1 system catches here in the black part

through the hepvo valve and into the main bathroom grey water stack which leads to the grey tank

After you go #1 we just spray the black part of the collection system with a few squirts of scented soapy water and you don’t smell anything unless you ate asparagus[emoji4]
For those of you who care about this stuff, we are going to try churnless which means #2 goes straight into a bucket that has a garbage bag and then you add some wood chips on top when you are done.

ID:	368886This makes clean up super easy but means you can’t go quite as long without dumping it out. We usually do short trips so this is easy. We have the system that lets you stir but that works better for fewer people and longer trips which is not what we are doing right now.

Thinking about selling

So we are at the point where we don't need a camper that has a bunk bed. We'd like a bigger bed for grownups (ours is more like a full) . Every time I think about selling it, I get a bit of a lump in my throat, but the reality is that it isn't getting used enough and I'd love it if somebody else took this thing around the world and had a great time. The 1980 Caravelle is really quite rare. Most people misuse the Caravelle when they talk about the much more common (but also very cool) Caravel. After years of work, this an unusual thing now. It has no black tank, no AC, no inverter. But it has a 40 gallon grey tank, 35 gallons of fresh water, 1/8" aluminum plate floor, lots of custom stuff, only a few dings and dents, a super cool LPG marine fireplace, 400 watts of solar + 2 Golf cart batteries, permanent beds for 4, Danfoss fridge, custom aluminum interior, lots of storage. But the door is still tweaked a bit, there is no real bumper, I still haven't put the lower trim back on, and some of the cabinets don't have doors. I like not having the doors on those cabinets since the doors would make them not work as well and I think they look cool. Anyway, any ideas what I could get for this thing? I am not selling it unless I can get enough to buy something that is not a complete project again.

shiny

Had my Caravelle polished by Reparadise in Salt Lake City. They did it in less than a week with a crew that came up from Florida. It isn't perfect, but it is a huge improvement and totally changes the look.
