1978 Caravanner help

I have a caravanner that I received from my sister who no longer had a place to put it. I do not know how to pin point a year from the numbers on the trailer tongue or the ones by the door. Can anyone help or direct me to someplace that could? The number by the door is O9099. I would need to do alot of work on this poor thing and I guess knowing what I have would help. Thanks!

A picture would help...in the meantime try and narrow it down using the pictures from the Vintage Airstream Archives

I am guessing that the coach in your Avatar may be the one that you are asking about. My strong suspicion is that it is a 1957 Ohio built Caravanner. Check the link below to see if this coach resembles the one that you are asking about.

Vintage Airstream - '57 Caravanner

The Caravanner has always been something of a unique coach. They typically have a floorplan that accommodates the friendly gatherings that are a part of most WBCCI caravans.

Good luck with your coach!

Kevin

Caravanners have been brought up just recently. I love all the windows on these models!

The 'O' certainly stands for Jackson Center, Ohio. I stand in awe of Kevin Allen -- the history he has with Airstreams, his contributions in posting to these Forums, and involvement with WBCCI and the VAC. His preceding post led me in the following direction on this matter.

R.J. Dial's Vintage Airstream.com archives for the following years say:
1958 - VINs use serial production numbers of O-9300 to 9399 (upper left of page)
1957 - VINs use serial production numbers of O-9XXX (bottom -- yes, incomplete...)
1956 - VINs use serial production numbers of O-9000-9099 (top center)

So do we say that delilahblue has the very last production 1956 model Caravanner? Kevin, thank you. And delilahblue -- congratulations. Members? Would we guess the production date to be approximately June 1956??
