Airstream Newbie- 1967 Overlander - please help- parts needed!

Hello everyone. I'm the new PROUD owner of a 1967 Overlander ... And she is a beauty! I'm also a newbie to owning a camper and to the forum! I have always adored these gorgeous campers put have never actually seen one on the road. I feel so blessed that my first camper is an Airstream. We have no idea what we are doing but do understand that she will be a labor of LOVE!!! I passed one everyday on my way to work and one day on my way home.....there she was , moved to the road side with a for sale sign.... I slammed on my breaks as if a heard of deer jumped out in front of me... I had to go see her! Fell in love with her and haven't stopped crying ( happy tears, of course) every sense the first day she was pulled out by the road. I couldn't stop thinking about her and It took some convincing my husband.... But he finally agreed to go look at her. He let me buy her, but thought that I had lost my mind. We bought her on Friday and by Saturday he was helping me with her.... Lol.... I think he secretly likes her! I was lucky enough to get most, if not all of the paper work. The original owners names are on the registration. The first lucky lady to own her was named Minnie.. The Overlander is in original condition with the exception of the carpet and in my opinion in very good shape, but she does need a good cleaning inside and out. So with that all in mind.... I named her Minnie after the original owner and her original condition. I was pleasantly surprised to find an app for Airstream lovers.... What a great idea and I have found useful information here. I took of few pictures of a few items that I know Minnie will need and was hoping that someone here could help. Click image for larger version

ID:	210101 I'm also looking for the roof vent/ sky light in the kitchen. The plastic on the top of it is cracked and will leak ... I do not know if I can replace just the plastic or if I'll have to replace the entire vent. I can only get two photos to post so I will add a few more below. Thank you in advance if you can help! ID:	210107 and I do believe that there must have been a piece of trim around the front window - on the top and sides of the window because there are screws there. Thank you again to everyone who can help!

Shawnna, Welcome to the Forums.... The part over the door is a rain guard (eyebrow) you can try InlandRV.com and VintageTrailerSupply.com for them. there is also OutofDoorsMart.com. there are other suppliers out there but these are most likely the ones that will have the parts you look for. The front window is missing the original rock guard and the arms that hold it in the up position. The vendors above can help there too! As for the shelf under the window you might put an ad in the Wanted To Buy (WTB) section of the Classifieds under parts and appliances here on the Forums. Hope this helps, Ed

Hey Shawnna
Try this website for the vent you need. It's called an astrodome.

Hi Shawnna, Just a weekend ago I installed one of those vent covers from Vintage Trailer Supply. It is fairly easy to do, but you need pop rivets and a gun. You can actually do it from inside as well! The front fiberglass window shade ( protector ) is indeed missing along with the aluminum hinge and supports. Some of these pieces may be available at Inland RV, or Out of Doors Mart, but may have to be searched through RV salvage yards. We replaced the antenna cover with a cable cover after running cable to the outside. That antenna wite cover is pretty useless now days.

Thank you so much everyone! I have been searching for the items. Found a few of them new, haven't purchased them yet ... Waiting to test the campers plumbing and finish testing electrical before I plung into many more purchases.

Good luck Shawnna, make sure you inspect the floor, especially around the bathroom for rot. Not an uncommon problem and feel free to ask away, most of us have been through a lot of our trailers, done a lot of repairs and love our Airstream's even more because of it.

ID:	210852 Cliff, here is the a picture of the astrodome and as you can see It is in terrible shape. I found a new replacement on VTS but haven't purchased it yet. I would love to find a original replacement. I will take more picture in a few days. We have several days of rain in forecast. I had to buy a tarp and cover and tie her up because I just do not know what all is leaking. I also would like to find a rock guard, and awning ASAP if anyone can help. I know that it has a 16' awning rail but nothing else for awning. I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed finding these items and trying to figure out what items I need to seal her up from the outside.

Will a heat gun remove the old caulking? Or do I need something else?

Also, I have 2 metal vents with fans and they have the metal lid on top. I didn't see a brand on it from the inside. They measure approx 14"x14" from the inside that appear to have a thick rubber seal around them. When I crank the handles the lid and seal raise up. Is there a specific seal sold for that fan /vent or do I just purchase a standard seal like D size available at VTS and use that? Thank you in advance for your help.

First thing to do is reseal windows. That side tabletop near window is delaminated due to window leak. Ask me how I know.

Yes... That window is definitely leaking.we are going to orderTremPro 635 and Aluminum Gutterseal and lg syringe to seal outside windows.... As far as I can visibly tell that is the only window leak. We are also going to order the airstream window seal for all the windows and the wide D seal for the door.along with 2 plumbing stack covers. I'm not sure how to seal up those two fan/ vents though.... My goal is to get her sealed up outside so that I uncover her and start figuring out where to go from there.

Sounds like it wasn't a fun experience! Hope that you got it taken care of before there was to much damage!

An excellent person to ask would be 62overlander or top they both do it a lot and frank (62overlander) gave me the best advise on caulk removal using a heat gun.
