It's made for hiding in your toolbox, or tucking under the hood of your dozer.
It requires a $20/month cellular service contract, however the peace of mind is worth it.
You can add a motion sensor that turns it into a device that protects a whole room (i.e. interior) for not much more, and if they steal your whole trailer, track it via the GPS

I believe you have to call the cell # to activate and deactivate however, so if you're memory challenged, you'll set it off a lot.
This looks pretty cool - is it very expensive? $20/month for cellular monitoring is pretty reasonable.

Packing in Florida

Doorgunner, you just need to move, here in Florida we`re allowed to shoot them. The bad guys don`t know who`s packing, this is one of the easiest states to get concealed weapons permit, just like my credit card, never leave home without it.Dave

The Mobilelock GPS/Alarm unit, with the add on motion detector is currently listed on Amazon.com for $599. Without the motion detector, it's $499. You'll want the motion sensor, and even at 599, it seems to be a good value considering everything it will do for you. It will monitor the room for intrusion and call. If the unit itself senses motion, i.e. the trailer starts moving, it will call. And when it calls, you can track it's location via their website and it's built in GPS. I believe it has an over-temperature sensor and will also call if it gets too hot... i.e. a fire. You'll need to verify this though. Another advantage is being fully self contained, you can move it around. Use it in the RV when it's in storage, then put it in your workshop to guard that when you're off on a trip.

Amazon.com: DEWALT MobileLock GPS Locator with Anti-Theft Alarm plus Indoor Motion Detector #DS510K: Home Improvement

I know it sounds like I'm a salesman, but I have no ties to this product, it's just what I've decided I'll be getting when I finish my Airstream. The only caveat is I don't know enough about the cellular coverage. I 'think' it's T-Mobile, but haven't verified, and I don't know how well it will work when roaming and going cross country.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree when it comes to material things but when it comes to life and welfare of my family I have to go with Doorgunner. This to is not a flame and said with respect.

3/4" aluminum (what else!) tubing with the ends slightly squashed to fit the latch handles, and some 5/8" wood doweling to join them. The doweling was not a great fit, so I put some shrinkable tubing over it.
One end is permanently attached and the other end is secured with a cotter pin.

No Worries mate!
Without the FREE exchange of idea's we all become alike. Now that would be a terrible thing!
Without weapons we become subjects- the gov't needs to fear us.
One of the things I enjoy about this forum is that most have their brain's turned on.

In theory, anyway. Respectfully, I'm kinda with doorgunner on this one. IMHO, that was part of the founding father's intention. Experience with the King and all that.

Elitist regimes evolve into what they are. An early move is always to disarm the populace. The greater good of the people stated as the reason. The 2nd amendment is one of the things that makes this country great. You pack or you don't. But, at least you have the choice.

I certainly don't agree with a "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality, but I do believe in protecting myself and my family from harm. If you know what you're doing with a weapon, you don't HAVE to kill anyone. I'm certainly not going to hide inside my home and wait for someone to finish robbing me blind and possibly ruining my vintage Airstream. If I have to approach an intruder, I prefer to be armed to the gills just in case they are. Someone crazy/desparate enough to break into your home/vehicle/travel trailer is very likely carrying a weapon of their own.

Before this thread gets too far off topic, I absolutley love the idea for the locking mechanism. Super simple, yet really effective. I'm definitely going to make a set of those!

It looks like a pretty effective device. Actually, it's pretty ingenious!

It does add an element of security but if an intruder really wants to get in they will. There were some recent break-ins in our area and they just smashed the window in the door and helped themselves to the contents of the RV.

We store our AS in a secure facility that closes at night. The area is protected with motion detectors. I don't lose much sleep at night with it being stored there.

It simply "locks" the two window latches together to keep them from being turned from the outside.

It looks like it is very effective. How long does it take to remove it? If you had one on the emergency escape window could it be removed fast enough for a quick exit?

Just a second or two. Pull out the cotter pin and slide back the tube.
