Mystery solved. New mystery revealed
Yep, that's where it is! Inside the front cover of the Univolt is a very stupid place, IMO, but at least it's found.
But the really interesting thing happened when I started searching around the gaucho. First I tried looking around the left side of the front gaucho. Mine has the goofy table thing that pulls out on the left. I took the cushion off, pulled out the table and was looking down in the nooks and crannies with a flashlight and spotted this absolutely enormous black spider--as in the Woody Allen/Annie Hall line; "Annie, there's a spider as big as a Buick in here!" I jumped back. Then I calmed down and started poking at it with a stick to try to herd it out the door. Except it kind of fell stiffly sideways and down. I very carefully reached down and touched it only to discover that it was an extremely life-like plastic spider. I fished it out and noticed that if fell on a old photograph stuck down below the "spider". (see below)
Obviously the spider was a set up for a hapless future owner. I was charmed since my boyfriend and I make liberal use of such things and pop spring snakes in particular. The PO was a couple in Albuquerque. He was a big game hunter who used the Airstream as a storage locker for his guns and booze for the last six years after his wife got MS. He was not one of the two men standing on the rocks. The POs bought the trailer from Oasis RV in Tucson in 1989. The paperwork says it originally came out of Oregon. The picture and four tape marks on it so it was hung somewhere.
Maybe this is topic for a thread. What have you found in your Airstream? Also, maybe, just maybe, one of these men has another Airstream and reads the forums.
