Unhappy What size fuse for 12-volt panel?

I'm a neophyte owner of a '79 Sovereign. The manual shows a 50 amp fuse for the Batt #1 Pos, but the fuse holder on my unit is too small for a 50 (the 3 fuses to the right of it are 50's). So not only is it too small for a 50, but the fuse (blown, I might add) I found in it from the previous owner is a ceramic "6-1/4". Now I'm really confused. The fuses to the left of it are 20's - would that be safe for Batt #1 Pos?
My manual shows a 2nd battery on the left (highway) front side of the trailer, opposite #1, but I have no opening there. There are fuses for #2 - should I assume I don't have one - or is it hidden somewhere?

Thanks for your help. I'm trying to weather the first wave of frustration with my baby.

Patrick, the 50 amp fuse is required in that position, as the Univolt is capable of putting out that kind of amperage in your coach. Mine puts out 40, but has 50 amp fuses. A smaller fuse will blow very quickly. Check your local NAPA and battery supply store for the proper fuse. It is a big 'en.
According to my Airstream service manual, battery number two should be on the street side of the tongue, inside the front of the coach.

Another source for those 40 and 50 amp fuses would be your local car stereo sales/installation shop. I've found them there and they were cheaper and more available than any of the auto parts places.

Fuse holder is wrong size

Thank you for your answers about the 50-amp fuse. I think a previous owner must have replaced the fuse holders and left me with one that is sized the same as the ones that get 20 amp fuses (I have only 3 clips that will accept a big 50-amp fuse). But since I have only 1 battery, and I have fuse clips for battery #2 (no compartment for it up front - apparently this model came with only 1 battery even though the fuse panel is set up for 2) could I route Battery #1 wires to the clips marked Battery #2 - thus giving me clips that will be big enough?
Also - is there any chance they put the battery #2 in a crazy place?
