What is it and what does it do......

On the road side of our 72 Safari near the back is a little light (see pic)? It's wired to the center brake/stop lights. When you remove the lead a bulb come out of the center.

That os a tail light monitor. When new, there was an abs cover over it, so you could see in your mirror if your taillights were working. There is a fiber optic pipe going from the tail lights to the monitor.

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup.

You can get a new metal cover for that at Inland RV, if you care to.

It is a fiber optic sytem that lights up when your lights are tail lights are working. If you have a bad bulb it won't light up on that side.

I got rid of mine. It was just another place for leaks. The cables are broken in the back so no reason to keep it. If you want to keep it test it to see if the fibers light up. Otherwise it is probably not worth ripping your trailer about to fix. It is not worth a rotten floor to me.
