What did I do wrong

Installed a 110 volt heating element in my water heater this weekend after taking a cold shower due to some debris in the gas valve. Installed a dedicated receptacle and switch in the bathroom. Ran receptacle wiring to the GFCI breaker. Now don't freak out but I put two wires into the GFCI breaker (in other words, I ran 2 circuits from one breaker). I know that is not the way you are supposed to do it but figured since they were both the same gauage, it would be fine with no chance for one to come loose. Turned the juice on and the breaker tripped. Confirmed polarity and it was fine. Removed and jumped to another breaker, new breaker worked fine and GFCI now re-sets. Are they just overly sensitive?

What do you thing about this idea? I really think this should be on a GFCI circuit so is there any reason I can't tap the refridgerator receptacle (it is on the GFCE circuit) for power, either by using a plug or wire nuts inside the receptacle box. It only pulls 425 watts.

I'd be reluctant on doing any major electrical mods to the RV, unless of course you are a licensed electrican. Airstream does sell units that run gas and electric, but I was under the impression that they ran a dedicated circuit to it. Reason I say that is when I was considering another custom built Safari SE, I was interested in the gas/electric feature. It was one of the things Airstream said they wouldn't do as it was not a variation they would do on the the production line because it had to do with modifying the wiring to a level the floor wasn't going to do.

I have an '04 and after I got to understand the mechanics of the bypass, I've not had a cold shower since. Of course, I do check the combustion and feed areas for nests, bug, webs, etc and don't take long showers when in the unit, using the trickle feature of the showerhead regualrly.
