Using a 50 amp male to 30 amp adapter

I am the proud new owner of a 1973 Trade Wind that I am renovating. Currently I have a 50 amp plug that feeds to a 40 amp double breaker.

I am using an adaptor temporarily which has a 50 amp male to 30 amp female. It apparently pulls one leg off...

My question is because this 50 amp plug is attached to a 40 amp double breaker rather than a 50 amp double breaker, am I only getting 20 amps to the camper? I don't want to hurt the AC. I am running it and a few lights only as far as I know.
