Hmmm. Interesting. Looks like it is nothing more than a simple 12 volt power supply, John. Does there seem to be a voltage regulator board in there anywhere? Any type of feedback circuitry to limit charging voltage? That looks just like mine. I hope that one is not setting on the anvil for........never mind.
The fact that it has those caps in there, means it should put out some clean DC, no?

nope none of the above, just rock and stick technoligy.
the caps look just like the ones our old furnace used, pcb no doubt!
i think charging is limited by unplugging!

Yep,
That's my old P.O.S. buzzy Univolt, if you look closely you can see the bottom fuse holder which was cooked.
Looks like I'll be munching on cheese curds and washing them down with some Old Style beer here in Texas any day now!

John & Chas, you both confirmed 2 things about our old Univolt:

Now we know why it cooked our batteries. We thought it was bad. You mean, that the way it was supposed to "work" ?
That's why they made it so loud and put it at the head of the bed. So we remembered to unplug it at night.

we can send you a picture of ours to double check: YES, it's cooked, all right.

Don't know much about the univolt thing, but being a blacksmith, what do you want $ for the anvil ?

Looks like a Genuine "Rare" Acme brand anvil
No matter what the actual cost of the anvil, the freight is the killer!

Now you have me worried, $, by that " kinda hard to come by " remark. I see you're in Wisconsin, so would the $ be less if I have to eat cheese? BTW I have several cousin's, a daughter & of course a son-in law, that reside in the Land of the Lost. Also that link you sent does not work. error page comes up that says " can not locate " usual from the Green & Gold. Just kidding.
Best,

yep ! Living in the land of milk & honey, frozen septic systems & water lines ( not ours happy to say ) & one fish. we are 25 miles North of Brainerd, in Breezy Point. You know the Viking would have won the Super Bowl against Kansas years ago, but several of the Vikes key players were suspended for taking an illegal substance. Seems the league inspectors were in the locker room before the game & smelled what they thought was an illegal product. Lutefish & ruggabagas--After the game they discovered that it was some dirty soxs & jock straps. Anyway we were robbed of glory! If you should ever come up this way stop by ---bring the anvil & stump & we can have a beer & discuss the situtation.
Best,

out with the old
here is the deceased unit, found no output from the transformer to the diodes. (no wonder it didn't make much noise! just a very low hum, quite un univolt like!)
if it is not rebuilt we will save it for a donor unit just incase frankenverter needs parts.
once again, THANX CHAS!!!!!

nervous.
Now you guys got me nervous. The book says I can leave the trailer plugged into 120 volt, the univolt maintains battery, then fades off. Is that going to "cook my batterys"? If so, should I unhook the battery when I am hooked to 120 for a couple days?
