Too quiet univolt!

We have a new to us 99 28' Excella, and are gradually getting "to know it".

We are working on the electric now, and we can not hear the univolt. Shouldn't it hum when hooked up to shore power? If it doesn't, we need to replace it with???

Do your lights work? If yes, you most likely do not need to replace. And or your rig is pretty new. May not have an ole Univolt...

Univolts don't just hum--they buzz. They sound like an encapsulated nest of steroid-enhanced wasps. It's just insane how loud the buzz is. If you had a Univolt, you'd know it. I had mine replaced and the new converter is so quiet you don't even know it's there. A good investment IMO.

Your 99 does not have a Univolt. If you have a monitor, check the voltage, if it is 13 volts or higher with the trailer plugged in, the converter is working. The converter that I installed in our Overlander (out of a 2005 model) only makes a noise if it works really hard and the cooling fan kicks on. And where it is, you have to open a cabinet door to hear that.
If you would like, there is a forums member that lives in Marco Island that would be happy to check over your trailer for you, and show you how everything works, for a nominal fee. I can PM you with his info.
