Thermostat - 24V or 12V

I need to replace the air conditioner thermostat in my 71 Safari. I found one at Lowes that will work for my air conditioner and fan but it talks about it being 24V. Reading the owner's manual I get the idea that the current thermostat is operating on 12V. Do you know if the 24V one will work?

I just used a standard Hunter model. It had a range from 12-24 volts. Works fine. The thermostat is powered by the 2 AA batteries, the voltage from the AC is a pass thru.

Thanks Brett,

I hooked the thermostat up and everything is working. The compressor seems to keep recycling but I think that is another problem. Thanks for your help.

Larry
