Decided to high tech the step (over door) light on the old Silver Pullit, so...
Using a pre drilled circuit board cut to the shape of the lens, I mounted 19 super white 10mm l.e.d.s wired in series in groups of three, each group adjusted for voltage/current with a 100 ohm resistor. The odd man out was wired separately with a 470 ohm resistor. I potted the back side with polyurethane to protect the wiring and used a bulb socket so that it would plug into the existing recepticle. It draws about .4 amps and is bright as ----!

can't believe you retained the bronze age bulb socket as a connector...

Great project Bill. You could get a job at Radio Shack.

I did something similar on my '73. Bought 4 "cool" blue LED's made to be mounted on the exterior of an automobile. I wired one in the over-the-door light like you did. Then a buddy made a mount that fits above the step. Wired all of that to the step light switch inside. No where as bright as yours, but I like the "Airstream" blue light glow in the dark.
Great looking work, Bill. Can you point us to any other LED work you've done?

Of course, retaining the "bronze age" socket allows one to revert to OEM style at the twist of a wrist. It also simplifies wiring. A truly thrifty person would use a burned out bulb
