Good Morning All,

I need a little guidance with my umbilical cord. The PO "wired" a "new" umbilical which consisted of wire and duct tape - my thinking was that he didn't think he could purchase a new 7 pin trailer end connector so he made one.

This thing finally fell apart while on a trip, I bought a new truck end connector from Tractor supply and wired it to the old trailer end. My lights have not worked correctly since. I have tried every combination of wiring I could think of, and still I get the following: No Running lights. Left signal works. Right signal and both reverse lights blink at the same time. It's a mess.

I am thinking of making a simple tester with alligator clips and a length of 14 gauge, removing the plug from the trailer to expose the wires then going from each wire on the truck side to each wire on the trailer side, determine the configuration Anyone else do anything like this? Or does anyone have a diagram - 03 Tahoe - 72 Overlander?

I think your '72 has a round pin plug on the trailer end and you need a flat pin plug on the tow vehicle end. If the PO has made a homemade wire system who knows what he has wired up. I would go to an RV dealer and get a pre made up umbilical cord with the 7 wire flat pin connector pre installed and molded on. Then you will have the proper wiring for the TV end. A 7 wire round pin plug can be then added to the other end. The wiring in the post above should be correct for the round pin plug, but the colors will not be the same as those used on the pre made up end. I bet you can figure it out though.

Then, you should be a happy camper, with a good cord to boot.
