Urge to Surge
For my purposes, surge protection was only a secondary consideration.
While camped at an independent campground, I noticed the air conditioner struggling when starting. Fortunately, I had my better multimeter (Fluke) with me and discovered the problem was low voltage.
I've noticed low voltage problems at other campgrounds as the rigs keep getting bigger and demanding more power.
I selected a Progresive Industries power protector (hard wired) with a remote display showing Voltage, Amperage, Hertz, and fault codes indicating several types of electrical conditions. Now if the voltage is too low for appliances to operate properly (and possibly fail) the power protector will shut down all power until the problem is corrected.
With these devices, you do tend to get what you pay for.
And as others posted, I consider this cheap insurance, especially if the air conditioner craps out on a hot/ humid day.
