Solar panels and installation

Can anyone recommend a dealer that does solar installations in Portland Oregon? I currently have 120Watts and Zamp ZS-30A controller. I want to add an additional solar panel(s).

Hi

How much are you trying to add?

There's only so much room on the roof of a 25'. If you are trying for a major upgrade, you probably need somebody pretty good.

Solar Dealer

Suggest you look at AM Solar down by Eugene. They started in the late 80's.
Call and talk to Dave Reuter if your interested in having them do the work or supply the components. (Don't email, they seldom respond, just call.) They have a terrific website with a lot of tutorials.

Isn’t Lewster associated with AMSolar?

AM Solar & Lewster

If you look at his public profile he is an authorized installer for them. I'm not sure when he's leaving, but he winters in Florida. If he's available, I would have no qualms about him doing the work.

If you are mechanically inclined, it is easy to do yourself. I did mine, 3 100 watt panels (flexible panels), on my 19' globetrotter. I was 66 yrs old when I installed them. The most important thing is drilling through the body and installing the fastener joining the solar panel wires to the wiring from the battery, and making sure that is secure and water tight. Good luck!

In hophead's case a DIY install if probably even easier. An extra panel can be added to the roof without drilling any holes. The panel feet can be bonded to the roof using 3M UHB tape and then sealed with Sikiflex 221. Connecting the new panel in parallel to the existing panel is probably all that's required.
