Do you know what a learning experience is? A learning experience is one of those things that says "You know that thing that you just did? Don't do that."
The Smart Plug comes with a template if necessary. It requires the same hole size as the original plug.
Unfortunately, there is no template in the package that included the inlet and the plug for your cord. I searched and found this diagram: http://www.defender.com/pdf/SmartPlug_BF30.pdf
It should directly replace the existing shore power inlet unless there is something unusual about yours. Remove the four screws and you should find it matches. In my case mine pushed up against the inner skin so I had to go inside and cut a hole in the interior skin to make room for the depth of the plug so it would sit flush on the outside.
If there is a website or support line that may be easiest
Otherwise take heavy paper stock like a Manila folder. Cut a strip long enough to go around the circumference. Wind the paper around and tape the ends. Slide the paper off. Keep the circle open so it doesn't change shape. Place where you want to cut and mark the outside of the paper to give you just a little room to have relief...
To mark, you can apply some marker like a China pencil or lipstick of your favorite shade and press to the place you want the circle then remove to see the line it forms...
