Running Honda Generator in the rain

I have two Honda 2000s that I keep in the bed of my truck while using them. Anyone tried turning them around so that exhaust can exit through the open tailgate while closing the bed cover while it's raining?

Thats the way to do it. I have a topper and set the gens just ahead of the tailgate, I never take them out of the truck and keep them locked down

Thanks, I wasn't sure if they would over heat that way or not. I guess the downside is that you can't see the warning lights on the front.

I use a beach tent to shield my two Hondas from the rain when it gets wet. I also have a piece of thin plywood that they sit on... they sit towards the back with the exhausts facing outward...

There is a purpose made cover which allows ventilation as well as protecting the electrical panel. Check Gentent.com

Thank you for this info. I'll start keeping the 3000i Honda unit we have in the truck bed. I have significant issues running it at all as my wife says it makes too much noise. I'm 70; flew in fighter A/C for years; and have a genetic predisposition to being "hard of hearing." Any other complaints about the Honda units are "too loud?"

I've run my Honda Handi 3KW unit in the rain lots of times. I've never had a problem.

I have a folding table, a tarp and 4 clamps. It serves the purpose 😀

Last summer I used my Yamaha 2400isHC LP generator extensively boon docking for the AC. It rained quite a bit. I covered it across the bed with the tailgate open. It looked crappy and I got soaked tying the tarp down on the ends more than once.

When I got home I returned a call to a company who, at that time, was working on the small portable generator weather cover for units like your Honda and mine. I ordered one and it is ready for the next adventure. just pulling the picture off the site I noticed they are on sale for $30 less than I paid a year ago. It takes about 10 min or so for me to clamp the lower arms on and put the poles in and add the cover.

My two Honda's are mounted on a platform with wheels with two 20 lb LP cylinders tandem in the middle. (Pics in my gallery) They ride forward on the road for favorable weight and balance of the truck. The platform rolls back for use. Both are mounted with exhausts pointed to the rear. If raining I keep the hard tonneau fully covering the truck bed. Never an issue with heat.

As for hearing issues, my wife tells me I'm losing my hearing. To that I reply "what did you say, honey?".

That particular model was (and still may be) the quietest on the market. Once you're in a CG where someone is running their $300 construction grade ginny, she'll change her mind.
