Required Cords?

I am going to pick up our 1968 30' AS in two weeks. I am assuming it does not have the required power cord. I may have a couple of marine cords around. Can any one tell me what I will need and the most common adapters?

Hi Phil -- and welcome to the Forums! Newer trailers seem to have the 30A twist plugs. But my '74 had a power cord hard-wired into the trailer with the loose end being a 30 amp male plug. You will probably want a 30A to 15A adapter (seen on left at weblink -- a very common item at farm/fleet stores or your local RV dealers) so you can hook it to a grounded extension cord or outlet at your home. These are not the more modern 30A twist plugs.

Do not attempt to run your AC on anything less than a full 30 amp outlet or you may ruin the compressor.

Enjoy the anticipation -- and be prepared for putting your baby into full working order.

Welcome to the forums!

Be sure and post pictures of your "new" 68! We love pictures here on the forums! Any questions, just ask! Also check out the search function on the blue toolbar, it will direct you to threads (conversations) that have a specific topic mentioned. (say, "electrical") you may get a lot of hits, just go through them and you will find answers! If not, post a question! I would be sure to check out your electrical power when you get your new A/S home... it may or may not be up to current codes. All may work fine, but microwaves and such may not work for you if you try to install one. If you are going to travel a bit as you bring it home, I would take along a 50 ft. extension cord so if your power isn't working you can plug into a regular outlet and at least have a light or a small electric heater.
