Replacing Motorola Stereo

I/we have attempted to replace the OEM Motorola stereo that came with our 79/31' Soverign with a CD/MP3 player (Panasonic). My daughter's boyfriend has installed dozens of these head units in autos but he was stumped by the wiring setup once he removed the Motorola. Has anyone successfully replaced their old units for a newer one and if so, how did you go about it? Thanks, AJ

i replaced the radio in my a/s with a sony am/fm/cd player and i just looked too see what color wires hooked to the speakers and wired it up to the fader controller. i think the female part of the connectors is "plus" side on the speaker wire
