Replacing Halogen with LED in puck lights

I am wanting to replace the halogen bulbs in the attached puck lights on my 2007 AS Safari, does anyone know if I just need an LED bulb or do I replace the entire puck?

If it's just a bi-pin halogen bulb, you can buy LED replacements in bulk. I bought a 4-pack to replace the 2 hot, power-hungry lamps in my Baraldi vent hood, and when I changed just one and turned it on you couldn't really tell the difference in the light from one to the other so the color temp of the ones I bought is great, though I'd have to do some ancient-history research to remember exactly which ones I bought. I think the ones I needed for the vent hood were G4 warm-white bi-pin LEDs. If that's a matching bulb for what's in the halogen ceiling lights, SuperBrightLEDs has replacements for $2.49/bulb and if you're buying in bulk and willing to deal with eBay sellers you can probably cut that price in half, but get essentially zero customer service.

I replaced just the bulbs in the pucks with LEDs when I had my '02 Classic. They are waaay cooler than halogens !!!! And as David said the light quality is not affected - it may even be better.

Replace the bulb only, and use warm white. I have 9-bulb LED replacements in all our puck lights and love them. The draw on these is significantly lower than halogen as well as less heat. I'm seeing 0.1 ah draw on an LED vs. 0.85 on a halogen.

I used Albrillo G4 1.5w (20W equivalent) dimmable ones. The dimmable part isn't necessary for that range-hood application but would be for the ceiling lights. The specific SKU I ordered originally doesn't seem to be available right now, but Amazon offered up this non-dimmable alternative ($9.99 for 5 of them, free shipping with Prime):

We, too, have replaced all the puck lights in our 06 Bambi with LEDs we got through https://led4rv.com. Someone said to use the warn LEDs, but we actually preferred the cooler lights. Purely your choice.

That was at least 5 years ago and we have had to replace only 1 of them since. We also replaced the lights in the exterior storage compartment, closet, scare light, and door step light as well (different LEDs).

The hardest part is removing the ring that houses the light. You do NOT need to remove the fixture itself.... First, turn off the halogen lights and let them cool. You'll be sorry if you don't. Just use a thin knife edge to lift the inner silver ring (being careful not to scratch the interior skin or the light housing)....The ring and lens are held in place by tension... That ring and the lens will pop out so you need to be prepared for that and catch them.

Then it's simply a matter of pulling the halogen bulb out and replacing it with the flat LED array. Reading light replacement LEDs look the same except the connecting wire prongs come from the back of the LED.

Actually the PO replaced all the halogens with LEDs and used warm white. We have an International Ocean Breeze, so with all that aluminum and white I would think it would be like an operating room with cool white. But it's a personal preference, and will be different depending on the eye of the beholder and interior finishes.

There's a thread going now (Easy Fix for warming up those bright LED lights) on the "solution" to the LEDs that AS is installing now, using an orange film to warm up the color temperature. Anyone considering this change might want to read that thread. One of the pictures of the change in a FC galley is dramatic.

Again, YMMV. But regardless of the color temperature you choose, the reduced heat generated and power (battery if you're unplugged) is significant, to say nothing about bulb life. Win win win.

All our lights are LED now. We never found an LED light that replaced flourescent tubes, so we finally removed those and replaced them with tiny LED strip lighting. The difference is astounding!! The light is warmer and it brightens the the bathroom and bedroom tremendously! I believe all lights were bought on Amazon. He bought a ten foot roll of strip lights, it’s snip to fit. We already had wire and caps.
