The ad says the batteries come in a 0-volt state. Is that normal?

Says to use lithium charger to awaken them.

Here is an article:

You get what you pay for. There is a lot that goes into manufacturing a high quality lithium cell. Every wonder why some constant discharge current ratings are lower than others? There is a reason...

They will probably be fine for RV use with limited high draw applications.

I choose Victron - paid a little more but they have very high standards, tens of thousands of deployments, and extremely strong performance backed by heavy internal r&d investments.

Renogy is new to the Lithium game, of course. These came out last fall so thereís not a lot of experience with them. No one knows how well they hold up or perform long term. Victron and Battleborn are the ones youíll find mentioned most often on this forum and would be, in my opinion, the lowest risk.

Renogy is a well respected company when it comes to solar. I doubt they are manufacturing these themselves. They might be great, and are certainly a good deal compared to Battleborn at $950ea. Iíve been very happy with my 500ah or Battleborn batteries for what itís worth.

Renogy has a very good reputation in solar. I suspect their LI batteries will be very good. Time will tell. I like their Bluetooth interface to the batteries.

Hi

Who knows who actually makes the batteries ... or the chargers ... or any of it. They are a marketing company and they likely are selling stuff made by others. The "software" in a charger or a battery is the big deal. Did they get it right or does it still need some help? How many times does your phone or computer download updates? Are you *really* sure they got it right the first time?

At this point there is essentially zero info on what the BMS in the battery does or does not do. Thus there is no way at all to even guess that they got it right. Since multiple others in the business *do* let you know (and guarantee) what the BMS does ... yikes ....

If it was my money, I'd let somebody else be the beta tester.

Just ordered them so I guess Iím gonna be that tester. Iím assuming (yeah I know) that the whole lithium game is changing rapidly. Prices / ah for good products will be dropping so hopefully this is in that category. The reviews Iíve seen outside the forum look great. Iíll let you know. My project list for the year just got longer, planning on lifting soon as well as upgrading the charger. I hear that these Airstreams make for fun trips. They sure make for fun projects.

Hi

Lithium for doing this sort of thing has been around for a good 20 years now. It's not quite the "shiny new" thing that a lot of people seem to think it is .....

Indeed "all in one" versions are a bit newer. Since there is no way to get inside the all in one's, any gotcha with the firmware is going to live on and on.

It looks like this is actually coming from Renogy ontario california! Maybe these are the ones that have issues with the terminals loosening. I did not see anything about the warranty. Renogy normally has a 5 year warranty.

Renogy also makes, what appears to be, a very nice device for isolation the AS's Lithium Batteries from the TV's Lead Acid Batteries. It is a neat Dc-to-DC converter with a setting for charging Lithium. Available in either 20 or 40 Amp.

https://www.renogy.com/renogy-12v-dc...ttery-charger/

They also make a 200 Amp Battery Isolator for only $99

The cost of lithium batteries is all over the place, from $500 to $2000 per 100AH.

Renogy certainly has no hand in making any part of the battery much like many other brands.

This really is a oil debate or which pickup truck to buy decision, there are many possible endings and paying a high or low price won't guarantee success.

I am consistently amazed though with the amount of money people spend on batteries, both lead acid, AGM and Lithium.

I received the batteries in just 3 days, from Renogy. Called in to ask some questions and register the warranty, no problems. I was quickly transferred to tech person after registering. He stated that the batteries come charged, how to check for balance between the 2 batteries and how to balance if they are slightly off from one another.
These are my experiences so far. Iím happy.
I will be starting the install while updating my wiring over the weekend so more real life experience with these Renogys coming soon.

Completer My Renogy Lithium Upgrade

Hi Team,

Completed my Renogy Lithium upgrade. Installed:
1) Two Renogy Lithium 100AH batteries
2) Renorgy Lithium compatible Solar Charge Controller (already had 250 Watts of Solar). Plus a Bluetooth adapter
3) Progressing Dynamics Lithium compatible converter
4) Renorgy DC to DC 20 Amp Lithium charger/isolation

Initial Thoughts:

Quality
1) Very impressed with the quality (fit. finish, ease of install, etc.) of the Renogy hardware. Good written manuals were provided with the Charge Controller and DC to DC Charger.
2) Progressive Dynamics Converter was fine and I am confident it will work for years. However, not very impressed with the physical build. In particular the sharp edges on the unit. Another item, and it is not a big deal, but why put the mounting hole below the 120VAC cord? Seems PD could have moved it a half inch to either side.

Customer Support:
1) Called Renogy three times. Twice got reasonable technical support. One time got someone who did not know what they were talking about.
2) Wait times for Renogy customer service varied from none to about 15 minutes during peak times.

Overall Thoughts:
1) At $791 delivered, 100 AH Batteries finally hit the price I felt comfortable making the purchase.
2) For $129, the Renogy DC to DC charger is one slick unit. With an input range of 8 to 16 volts (from the TV alternator), it provides 3 stage charging of the Airstream's batteries. Not a ton of current but it is something. Plus, you need to isolate the LI batteeries from the TV's Lead Acid and why not get a bit of charging out of it? Works with multiple battery types. Even if I were not switching to LI, I would install one. IMHO very reasonably priced.
3) For $35, the bluuetooth adapter for the solar charge controller provides lots of functionality. The bluetooth app is well done, shows lots of info, and allows changing of the Charge controller's parameters.

Time will tell how durable the system is. However, my initial impressions of the Renogy hardware is excellent.

I’ve been using a 100 ah lifepo4 Renogy since spring. I utilize a Renogy 200 watt solar suitcase to charge the battery. It’s been a great upgrade, the battery has a fast charge time. The only problem I’ve run into was the battery ended up at 0v and was locked. My solar suitcase with pwm charge controller would not unlock the battery from 0v. So be prepared for that eventuality. I tried my noco 1100 charger but it wouldn’t do it , nor is it designed too in retrospect. I ended up buying a Renogy mppt charge controller and that did the trick. I’ll use that when I add some solar to the roof.
