Renogy vs Zamp

I am considering a portable 200W solar system. Renogy and Zamp names regularly come up on searches. The Zamp product is significantly more expensive. Does anyone know why? Is there a reason to stay away from Renogy? When it comes to electricity I'm definitely a plug and play guy. Thanks

I have never used Renogy but I think the major factor is their controller may have or might have had some issues. I don't think they make a 200 watt portable but maybe.
I met John Zamp at our facility in 2009 or 2010 I forget exactly when he was just getting started. Absolute amazingly driven man and he was determined to be the best. Zamp is producing their products in the USA now and that might be part of the price difference but honestly I didn't compare. I just know good stuff when I see it. For example, he dumped the Anderson style connectors and made a better one. All aluminum framing is resourced locally, etc. Panels are also made here now. Great products and great company all around and they answer the phone too!

I just bought the Zamp 160W system. Beautiful quality.....you get what you pay for. Alao picked up this heavy duty extension cable... https://www.amazon.com/Zamp-solar-ZA...TMT3RCDQFH0Q6M

And this connection that I adapted to my battery box...no more clip on attachments. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

They also make a nice roof kit specifically for Airstreams.

Renege only offers a 100w suitcase system but they have a another 100w portable without the controller you can join up to the main panels while Zamp offers up to 200watt two panel system. I purchased my Zamp system a year ago. I've used it on several trips to national parks where there are no hook ups and on a good sunny day the batteries get fully charged. You can always build your own system purchasing the blank panels and a solar controller, make some legs, rivet on hinges and latches. For DIY you would want to mount the solar controller inside the trailer close to the batteries and run a pigtail connector outside for quick connect.

I'm happily using a Renogy 100 suitcase. It works fine for me. The only real difference is the controller is not waterproof, but you can easily protect it.
