Removing Umbilical Cord

I've got a problem in that I accidentally nicked one or more wires in the umbilical cord in the A-frame of my FC 25FB. I know for sure that the left turn signal and brake light aren't working.

I don't know how I can fix it without at least partially removing the umbilical and seeing what kind of damage I did. I accessed the junction box to see if I could disconnect the wires and possibly pull it out the entrance that goes into the A-frame. When I can find all 7 of the wires that come into where the junction box is. But the harness sheathing doesn't come through the hole in the floor so I need to figure out which are part of the harness and which aren't. I can find the red, green, brown, yellow, blue, black, and white. But there's another blue wire that goes through the hole and a gray one as well. I looked at the schematic in the owners manual, but it references the 12v schematic for my model and that is not in the manual.

I started a thread in the electrical forum but thought I'd put it in general as well.

Why don't you just cut the outer sheath open at the point where you "nicked" it and repair it with butt-splices, then tape and seal the umbilical? No need to remove it at all.

The umbilical runs through the A-frame. I nicked it when I drilled a hole to mount an anti sway bar. So I have to pull it OT far enough to repair. I don't have to get it all the way. I need to pull it about 2 feet.

The blue and grey wires may go to the breakaway switch. Blue is typically related to brake wiring. The grey may be the +12 volts to the switch.

Be careful...don't plug the trailer into shore power until you get this fixed.

When on shore power the converter sends power through some of these wires/

I have seen and heard of guys jumping the plug and powering the running lights when not connected to the truck so power is coming back through that plug and if shorted you might damage the converter.

You could order a new cord, to take the conservative route? If possible get one that is extra long and leave the extra length coiled up in a hidden spot. Our '85 25' had such an extra-long cord, so that when we nicked it, we had enough to cut the cord shorter and use it.

When you find the junction box and disconnect or cut, consider attaching a strong cord at the end and as you pull out the old cable the cord will trace the path. Then attach new and pull back thru same path.

If you don't need this technique so much the better.
