Red light on power cord head?

Does anyone know what a red light, as opposed to a blue light on the power cord head means? I can't find ANY guidance in my manuals for this but I've got to believe red is bad in some way. I have full power and everything works fine. Brand new 2015 Intl Sig with 30 amp service plugged into a 20 amp service with adapter. Thanks is advance!

I believe it is sensing that the polarity is reversed.

Reverse Polarity

The red light is bad news. I think means your electrical hookup may be/is dangerous.

Furrion makes the power cords for Airstream. The following quote comes from the Furrion web site at

F30R30-SS - Power cordsets - RV Camp Power - Electrical

"Furrion's Faultsmart Neutral loss and Reverse Polarity Indicator includes a bright blue LED power indicator and a bright red LED reverse polarity indicator. This reverse polarity LED indicates incorrect flow of electricity due to incorrect wiring."

The cord on our 2013 had a tag that also provided the explanation of the LED indicators.

The red light on the furrion power cord means it is plugged into a reverse polarity power source, like others have said.

I.e. Hot and neutral are reversed at the source. Which is a bad thing...

You may have also received a yellow power checker with you unit when new. It has three LEDs which will give you a double check...we leave ours plugged in for continuous checking...

If you are plugging in to a "normal" 110vac outlet, one of these Amprobe PY-3 110V AC Receptacle Tester

will help isolate where the problem is originating. These testers are very helpful.

Hi. I have a 2015 International Sig and there was a company recall on the power inlets (I brought mine in this week). I didn't have a problem, no red light, but being that you do I wouldn't use it until I brought it in. They checked both of my power inlets, they were fine, it's a ten minute fix if there is an issue. The alternative is possible fire (according to the letter I received).

red light

Probably means there is a reverse connection at hook-up; your unit is ok but the polarity is backwards from the source;

What they said.

I use the tester that paulngina and mefly2 mentioned in every new receptacle I connect to. Plus, if you buy a 30 amp male to 15 amp female adapter like this one
http://www.amazon.com/Camco-55233-El.../dp/B00192QB3I
you can use that tester on 30 amp hookups. I would not recommend using that adapter for anything other that testing the circuit since it lets you plug 15/20 amp wiring into a circuit that is protected by a 30 amp breaker. But it's a simple, inexpensive way to use the standard circuit tester on 30 amp receptacles at campgrounds.

Wow... interesting. Reversed polarity is a new concept to me... I have no idea what could cause that or why. This is the exact same outlet I've hooked up to since day 1 and it's the same outlet that gave me a blue light until just a few days ago. Nothing, and I mean nothing is inoperable or even acting weird on the electrics. I never thought to look at the big white sticker that's wrapped around it though. Duh I guess.

Interesting about the recall too. I bought the thing less than a month ago... I'd love to think they complied with this recall when I bought it. Glass half full.

Would / could water on the contacts have anything to do with the indication? Or have caused a fault somewhere?

Thanks for the help everyone. It takes a forum to raise a first time RV owner!

OH! I am using an outdoor extension cord to run from the wall outlet to the RV power cord. That's felt like a bad idea for a while but the 30ft cord is about 3 ft short! I will troubleshoot this somehow and report back with findings. Bzzzz, zap, ouch.

Based on your last post I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not like the polarity of your outlet changed. More likely the poor quality power cord and/or inlet on the coach. The light in our power cord head-end lasted maybe 3 months and we're on the 3rd coach inlet now due to faulty lights and stripped threads. 😒. As soon as we're out of warranty I'll be switching to the stainless steel inlet and probably a better cord.

If all the posts that say the red led means reversed polarity are correct them my cord must be defective. The red light has always been lit my cord since new. I have reverse polarity detection both on my external surge protector and also on an outlet in the trailer which both show normal polarity. I always assumed the red light was a "power on" indicator.

Ken, well your post is the most comforting... I think. The red light definitely indicates a fault but maybe it's indicating that the fault is within the head and it cannot guarantee that it's sensing a polarity reversal. How big of a problem is reverse polarity though... are campgrounds electrical systems that shoddy? Wouldn't a polarity reversal be indicative only of a really lousy electrician?

The dealer says its a faulty cord. There is a recall on it and they will inspect and likely replace the cord and anything else that is associated with it. They have been fantastic to work with so far.

What year and model trailer do you have? Perhaps I also have a defective cord. Although in my case it's not hurting any thing.

Only men believe their defects aren't hurting anything. This is the reason for wives.

I have a 2015 Intl Signature 25FB. Took it to the dealer, they tested it using a different cord and determined it was a faulty cord. There is a recall on the Furion system but mine was fixed prior to delivery. This is unrelated. I didn't bother to get a new cord... If a false red condition is so common, what's the point in having an indicator? I might take it up with Furion direct at some point.
