Power cord replacement

I hit a truck tire tread which damaged my power cord. Since it'S still winter here I haven't crawled under the AS yet. My question is the connection to the AS difficult and the wires easily identified. The AS is a 2012 25' Flying Cloud.

The umbilical cord (guessing that is what you are referring to) enters the front shell through the frame rail and the distribution box is tucked away there. AS uses standard trailer wiring (blue=brake, brown=running lights, etc...) so that is easy enough. I recommend disconnecting the terminals from the distribution box, connect your new section of 7way cable to the old and then pull through the shell from the outside until you have enough new cable showing, about 5 feet is good to start. Reconnect and bask in the glory of saving about $200 DIY! Cable can be found at any trailer supply store or NAPA even.

Welcome to the forum! There is a recent thread on a damaged umbilical cord, which may be helpful.

Your owner's manual should have some electrical schematic diagrams to guide the way.

Good luck,

Peter

I did some electrical work recently and although I did not have to deal with the umbilical, it is a bitch to gain access unless you remove the bed in a 25 FB.

Good call on the owners manual. Check the color coding. Depending on what cable/ plug you buy it may be wired differently than in the manual. Check out what wire goes to what pin on the plug and compare to your manual.

For an FB (if that is what you have, remove the mattress and unscrew the forward section of plywood. Access is improved quite a bit then. The cable comes up through the floor and is sealed with black sealant - you will need to carefully dig it out to get the new cable through. Not hard but tedious.

I just did mine. Agree, "not hard but tedious". Part was cheap. You'll need a 10' cable for the 25FB like mine. A bit more than 10' like Conntek makes is even better http://a.co/3Tyjz59 The caulk through the floor on mine is gray and hitting the aluminum belly pan so I used Vulkem caulk there.

You'll need ring connectors for 3 different gauge wires (1-10AWG, 1-12AWG, and 4-14AWG). I think the ring size was for an 8-10 stud, not positive. Also you'll need a wire stripper, and a good crimper. Most combo stripper/crimpers tools are crap!

It took a while for that to sink in. Ah! The cable from the truck to the AS that is exposed near the hitch!
