Question Outside Power Plug - where can I get new ones??

I have a 63 Tradewind and I have a powerplug and cover on the outside of the trailer that needs to be replaced. Where can I get one of these:

The plug looks like this:

The cover looks like this:

The closest I can find (and it is not too close) is on vintage trailer supply link:

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

-Sig

I would try like Home Depot or Lowes or any hardware store. You should be able to get pretty close just look for the electrical thats used outside.

I don't think you will find the screw-on cover at Home Depot, you need to go to a major electrical supplier or a Marine store.

I switched mine to a spring loaded cover from Home Depot. I switched the guts to a L-5-20-R twist-lock receptacle. I think it is more secure, and I can prevent other campers from stealing my electricity while I'm gone.

I also added a wire-through GFCI to power this outlet.

If it is high up on the curb side, then that is actually an outlet that can accept an accessory 120V patio light. Airstream had a light avaliable that would screw into the threads the were left when the cap was removed.
You might want to very carefully remove the outlet and try and restore what you have. These are very hard, if not impossible, to find.
I have found hard to get stuff at Marine supply stores before.
The part from Vintage Trailer Supply might a Marinco part.

Outside Power Plug - where can I get new ones??

Greetings Sig!

I agree with Uwe -- if that outlet is mounted higher up on the side of the coach it was likely intended for an exterior lamp -- my '64 Overlander has had one since it was delivered in 1964 -- a photo appears below:

It is very difficult to find the original style cover, and mine was restored as much as possible by the Ruth's when they polished and Plasticoated the exterior. The fixture itself is rather difficult to find, but was one utilized by manufacturers other than Airstream as my family's '69 SunWay had a virtually identical fixture. Through a stroke of luck, I was able to find an NOS glass shade at one of the Annual WBCCI International Rally Flea Markets.

Good luck with your search for a replacement receptacle.

Kevin

I have two on our Overlander. One is up high, near the main door, and the other one is near the dump valve, low on the side.
Both the plug and cover are available at my local Ace Hardware.
