Ok I feel dumb
I pulled the two 12 volt batteries from my late model airstream, and I am now putting them back in. But what is the extra black wire in the box for? (not the ones that connect the two batteries nor the main positive and negative battery terminal connectors). It's black - but I seem to remember it went to the positive terminal. Is that correct?

It may be the power to the powered jack, I had to go look at mine but it's red near the battery. That was the only factory extra wire in that area. Follow it out and see if goes to the jack that will always have power no matter what you turn off inside. Mine was painted black on the outside of the battery box when they sprayed the outside of the jack area.

Night, we have a black wire, fairly thick, that goes to the power jack.
I lived in Evergreen for 22 years, the last 11 in Marshdale. It got too busy, so we moved in 2000, but we miss the weather (not too hot, lots of snow) and the ponderosas.

That wire is a combination wire that feeds both the power jack and the breakaway switch. It should go on the + terminal.

Small World
You are right CrawfordGene; When I moved to Conifer in 1975 there was 1 gas station; a Mom and Pop operation that was only open from 7am to 7pm cash only. 1 Mom and Pop grocery store. My kids went to school in Marshdale. My youngest son and his family still live north of Bailey, so we go back there on a regular basis. Can't believe the changes. We moved in 1997 because of the crowding. It's a small world, sorry to get off topic.

I live close to Marshdale now. What a small world. We love it here and I agree that the weather is great. Cool in the summers, snow in the winter that melts off quickly, and close enough to skiing and all the other outdoor activities. I would be things have changed a lot since 1975, but it's still a quiet peacful town with a lot of nice people.
Thanks for the info on the wire all - I attached to the positive terminal and all is working fine.

Glad the wire problem is solved.
I moved to Evergreen in 1978, 3 years after TG. People were complaining about all the new people then. When I-70 was built, Evergreen had boomed and it kept growing, but it became a flood in the early '90's. We decided to move in 2000 to a quieter place, but it's too quiet. Still looking for Valhalla, sometimes in our Airstream.

Wiring Diagrams
Night,
If you had a wiring diagram for your AS it would have been easy to answer your question. Take a look at this thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f37/...7fb-66369.html and if you agree with me, let AS know.
Thanks,
Wayne

I took a picture of my wiring so I would get my batteries wired correctly when I returned them after winter storage. I'm having trouble posting a picture within this reply. You can see it at the following URL: Member's Photos - Photo Gallery.
The small wire is connected to the positive post as overlander63 indicated.

idmtman I appreciate the picture. In October I disconnected my batteries, put them in the house and took the trailer to storage. Prior to the disconnection process I took several pictures with my cell phone. That said, in December I was working on my tow vehicle, put the phone on the front tire "tempoarily", 10 minutes later got into the truck to move it and you guessed it, crushed the phone and lost the pictures.
