OEM ceiling extractor vent fan on '72 Sovereign ?

Hi All,
is this fan oem? can't see mentioned anywhere in the owners manual ! nor can I find a switch. i didn't even know it worked until up on the roof replacing the vent lid and clearing some debris and it suddenly sprung into life, i couldn't work out how to switch off, so pulled the wiring lose which promptly blew a fuse to the switch board... at the fan stopped running , it was shot, noisy and rattling.
thinking of replacing entire unit with a fantastic fan at some point, so at least there is 12v power up there.

Yes it looks original. I am not so sure I would go with a fantastic fan since they require removing the OEM vent housing. This vent housing supports the roof. If you do put in a new vent make sure you add some structure between the inner and outer skins.

I replaced the o.e. vents with remote controlled Maxxair vents.

Your '72 is like my '69 no need to worry about the roof its supported on both sides by the inner structures that run parallel the length of the trailer.

I found the best price on Amazon . The Maxxair has 9 speeds and the cover is the rain shield also.

i went ahead and pulled out the old fan today, the roof around is kinda weak, but is that a concern ? the new fan will add some support again i guess ..
if this is an issue, guess I could slip so wood cut to size to add structure and support, but not sure why this could be an issue ? thanks

FYUI, the motor, fan blade, and shroud are all available new from Airstream (inland) I rebuilt mine works great! I'm thinking of adding the fans to my 2 other vents, If I can find the 12v up there. John
