New 50 amp SmartPlug inlet - good location ???

We are about to cut holes into the street side skin to place the new 50 amp 240/120 VAC SmartPlug inlet. Want it adjacent to the wiring area just forward of the street side wheel well. That was beneath the rear dinette bench, but will now be in our cabinet along with the new AC power panel.

The location is just rear of the first vertical rib forward of the wheel well, and just below the horizontal rib above the wheel well. From the outside (street side, right is rear):

From the inside (looking at street side wall, left is rear):

As suggested in this thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f37/...ml#post1968962
we are filling the space between the walls with Evercoat semi-rigid, minimally expanding foam. This foam should fill in around and up to the forward rib and top rib giving extra stability.

This space is rear of the air conditioning power wire, that you can see going into the wall opening. The location seems void of wiring or other important items. It also looks to be about where the power inlet is on 2017 Classics.

Has anyone else placed a shore power inlet in this location?

Any issues in wall here?

Hi

You *should* be able to back up that area with a piece of plywood or some other material to stiffen things up even further. I wouldn't go crazy, but it looks like it could be done cheap / easy without messing anything else up.

Thanks. Was planning on a 6x6x1/16 in. aluminum sheet on the inside. Think snugging up to the two ribs should also help with stability.

Does anyone know how Airstream reinforces the AC power inlet on the new Classics, where it is in the same place?

Hi

If they back it up, I'd bet it's with a pre-made aluminum plate. I haven't torn into mine to see.

In Aviation, we call that a 'doubler". FYI
