Multi Stage Convertor

Have 2018 Flying Cloud Bunk. My new multi stage convertor seems to be not working. Have not gone to dealer yet to prove it.

My question: I understand this will be warranty replaced. Read quite a few comments about the multi stage brand being junk or lots of problems
.
Before I put another of the same brand in......can anyone give me a suggestion of a better brand or option? Cost is not a concern as much as failure is. Thanks for any input.

My 2018 has the new controller and we have had no problems. I’m not sure where you saw all the negative comments as about the only questions or concerns I’ve seen posted we with regards to getting it to go into boost mode.

What problems are you having that lead you to think it isn’t working?

My disconnect controller stays a constant light red. Can not go into store or use at all. Lights will not turn on even on shore power. Called Airstream and local dealer and they both felt like it was the convertor.
I could of read the wrong thing about the convertor comments. Was a thread on here about new electrical upgrades for 2018.

How about a little more information. What is not working?
The converter takes shore power and makes 12 v. DC from that.
Do you have DC lights? Do you see a charge at the batteries?
If you disconnect the batteries, do you still have 12 v lights?

No DC lights. No lights from disconnected battery. Do not know about battery charge. Thanks.

Without being there and taking voltage measurements etc it’s hard to be definitive but that sure sounds to me like a faulty Store/Use circuit. Assuming this is on your 2018 unit so the red light being on would indicate to me that the converter is putting out 12V. The lack of lights would indicate the relay didn’t close.

You need to check the voltage across the constant duty solenoid that is part of the Use/Store system located in the front nose of the AS, these fail from time to time, if you do not know how to check the voltage, off to the dealer! If the solenoid is bad, replace with the exact same solenoid, do not use another type (momentary/starter). AS sells these relatively inexpensive with the fuses already installed. It is possible to build your own assembly, just not worth the effort IMO.
Good luck!!!

Whats does your Airstream battery monitor read in volts when you press that button? This is part of the SeaLevel tank monitor panel and on my 2017 unit is above the galley counter. If the converter is putting out DC voltage it will read about 13.6 volts if connected to shore power. If using only batteries the voltage would be about 12.6 for fully charged batteries.

I’m dumb

I thought my battery charging process was solid. Turns out it was not.
My batteries were not charged enough. Charged them up and everything works as should. Appreciate the resposes. Learned something I will not forget now.

Would you mind sharing what was your old process (that didn't work) and what is your new process?

Basically not using a battery charger.
Thought by using the shore power every three weeks for 24 hrs would be enough to keep the batteries in good shape...(while in storage of course).
I still think that would work. My problem is I did not have the batteries charged enough to keep them maintained by the shore power process.
Brand new trailer so I assumed they were in good shape to begin with.

You solved the problem! Good news. Congratulations!

People assume because that because their coach is new the batteries are too. Sometimes these units sit for a long time and aren't plugged in.

Iam really dumb

My convertor breaker was tripped! Never checked it. When I reset it the convertor started making the cooling noise it will make when running.
Why I never looked in the breaker first is a lesson and glad that was all it was.
