Mdl 7300 Converter Failure

FYI, if your converter fan won't stop running. We have 2016 A/S and on our last trip the converter fan would not shut down when we plugged into shore power. Happened on a Saturday, so could not get hold of anyone until following Monday and we were thousands of miles from home.

Airstream Adventures Northwest (which got us right in and treated us great!) diagnosed a failed Parallax mdl 7300 converter. It seems very odd that a brand new unit could fail like that, but it did. They replaced it with a mdl 8355R and the fan has not come on since.

If you plug into shore power and your converter fan won't shut down and your batteries are not charging at a 13V plus rate, our experience is that your converter is shot. Hope this helps if you get into such a situation.

Consider upgrading to a multi-stage converter

I understand that if an Airstream is plugged into shore power more often than not that the single stage factory converter may over charge the batteries. For a bit more than $200 an upgrade may provide peace of mind on this aspect of Airstream ownership. Some of the components within our wonderful trailers are known to be low end and deserve upgrading.

Not sure what an mdl designation is but you got the newer version of the 7355 lower converter. The 8355r is the same basic lower component except they are about 3 inches deeper. Not a problem as long as you are not backed up against a water heater or something behind the original that would present a physical problem. Still single stage you know
