I have been checking my oem lights out and notice one of my light switches
is getting very hot . I plan to replace the switch, I know the incandesant
lights run warm. should I convert the light over to led ?
if your switch is hot, you need to replace it. it is corroded inside and there is a remote chance it could start a fire. in any event, it is now a resistor and is eating up some of the voltage to the light. an LED with help by reducing the current significantly, but the switch is definitely defective. It should easily handle the current for your incandescant light without getting warm, much less hot.
Yes, replace that 41 year old switch. Everything will wear out with time. The incandescent lights AS used then always took a fair amount of power and the switches were marginally rated. Of course anything you can do to reduce the load like using fluorescent or LED lights is good for other reasons as well.
