Is my circuit breaker bad.

I turn my breakers on then turned fan on and breaker trips . I reset it and five seconds later it trips. I unplug everything reset circuit breaker and it does not trip I plug fan back in and 15 seconds later it trips. Is this the sign of a bad Circuit breaker? I hope so because ill go on a Chipmunk hunt if it is not if I did not mention I had a chipmunk infestation last winter I hope they did not get a hunger for wire insulation. I do not want to go on a wire hunt after I just got done putting my ceiling all back together and it did work over summer.

have you tried plugging something else in same outlet, have you tried plugging fan in somewhere else?

One breaker can control more than one outlet, use a test lamp, verify which outlets are on each breaker. Only other variable would be ground fault circuit.

A 77 service manual would answer all your present questions, and hundreds more in the future.

Post 2 starts you in the right direction. Since the problem starts with the fan, so should you. Plug the fan in every outlet you have. Does whatever circuit breaker trip for the particular outlet it is in? You could just need a new fan.

Breakers have been known to fail, But is not common.
Try something else in the same outlet that is tripping the breaker. If it does not trip, it is the fan. If other things makes it trip, it is either the wiring or the breaker. Replacing the breaker would be the easier thing to do first. If it still trips then Alvin, Simon, and Theodore chewed some wires.
