interior light fixtures for 66 safari?

After four months of waiting, i am finally getting my 66 Safari from the shop- this weekend. One thing i know i need to do is replace the original aluminum wall lamps ( the ball joints have all been broken. I want to find something similar or with a similar "period look" to them.
Anyone have a source? Thanks!

I've got a 67 Tradewind and have some broken ball joints...the light hangs down by the wires. If you find a source, please let me know. Thanks. Jim

I too had reading lights with bad ball & sockets. I had previously queried this forum and it appears replacement is the only fix. I wanted lights that would look similar and fit in the front round panels of my trailer. After looking at lots of fixtures in various catalogs a Camping World catalog came. They had some swivel type reading lights that looked better to me than anything else I had seen. I ordered two nickel plated versions and mounted them onto my old aluminum bases. (The old bases could have been removed and the new lights mounted directly to the wall using metal screws except my old bases had indented the vinyl wall covering slightly and I didn’t want those “half moon” indents surrounding the new lights.) Not the same as the originals but for me as close as I could come for now, and they work great. Here’s a photo of how they turned out.

Those are cool! I'm lucky to have all my originals and they all work.
Have you replaced the counter/overhead lights with Thinlights? I think I want to do that - next year - at least replace them. Can't find the little knobs to turn them on and off - otherwise they all work too! Inland has the covers but I need the knobs.

The knobs on my ceiling fixtures look like those used on basic household dimmers/reostats- round. They may work as replacements.

I have the same problem with knobs for the overhead lights. I had to replace the switches, and now I can't find knobs that fit. The covers are still good, but it's the knob that holds them on. Now we live with covers in storage and no knobs on the switches.

I bought the same wall lights as Rick T, but haven't mounted them yet. The number is:

I was lucky with my overhead lights, two of the three were ok. And I was able to replace the switch on the third. The round plastic switch knobs were all ok. I now have everything working so I plan to keep the lights as original as possible unless/until I have problems, then I'll probably change to the thins. From reading some posts it appears fluorescents use less power when running off the battery. That may get me changing earlier. We'll see.

The lights came with very bright spotlight type 12v bulbs. Because the fixtures are located halfway down the wall in the front round corners of the trailer they are positioned just above the ear of anyone sitting on the front goucho. My wife didn't want to wear sunglasses when she read so I ended up putting in some lower power bulbs.

Hey all,

I was going to try those things that you keep electrical stuff together. Know what I'm talking about? those knob things. We figured we could kinda make them "fit" to work until we have to change the lights out too. Will let you know what they look like if we ever get it done.

Trailer will be getting ready for storage this weekend. Have to move it before Nov.1 and have no time now to work on it. Just gonna winterize, clean and move.

Till next year on the "fixer-upper".

I saw the light on ebay....bidding way too much already. Not worth that much to me to have a tarnished original that will end up breaking in the future. Prices on some of this stuff has gotten out of hand. I could understand if you're collecting for a museum piece and everything must be original or it detracts from the original but to pay $100 or so for one of these lights that can be fixed for 10 or replace with a look alike for 18 is too rich for my blood.

I realize this thread is very old but has any body come up with a fix for the broken ball joint on the late 60s wall sconces?
I have two that need to be secured.
Now they just dangle by the wire.
I'm trying to do all the small detail stuff before spring really gets here.
