Truma launches VeGA
Commercialization of innovative fuel cell system starts at the Caravan Salon
Finally: Truma is launching its fuel cell system VeGA at the Caravan Salon 2012. It guarantees a permanent, self-sufficient power supply completely independent of the mains supply. The innovative product from Truma is the first fuel cell system that runs on liquid gas.
More self-reliance
The VeGA system uses liquid gas (propane and/or butane), which is available in every vehicle, to generate power in an environmentally-compatible and efficient manner, thereby recharging the supply batteries. Thanks to its high output of max. 250 Watt (6,000 Wh a day), VeGA covers the individual power needs reliably, even if several appliances such as the TV, fridge, lights or heater are operated simultaneously. “With a standard 11 kg gas cylinder, campers can produce up to 28 kWh of power thereby remaining self-sufficient for several weeks, depending on their consumption rate,” explains Andreas Schiegl, head of the fuel cell system product centre.
Better comfort
The fuel cell system works completely automatically. Once the supply battery undercuts a certain charging level, the VeGA is automatically activated and charges the battery with approx. 20 A. The higher charging current and the optimised battery charging technology ensure that the charging process is short and efficient. This is controlled via charging electronics within the device and can be adapted for several battery types (acid, gel, fleece). Once the batteries are charged, the VeGA returns to the stand-by mode. Alternatively, the fuel cell system can also be operated manually. A colour touch screen displays all the relevant data, such as operating mode, battery voltage, charging current or service intervals.
Better reliability
The VeGA meets the same high standards of all Truma products. “We have tested the system intensively for several years and have carried out extensive field tests with around 200 devices both internally and also in cooperation with end customers and vehicle manufacturers,” explains Andreas Schiegl. “Also, TÜV Süd has tested and certified the product and the entire manufacturing process.”
Better for the environment
There is a wealth of high-tech and know-how in this innovative product to allow power to be generated from liquid gas in a multi-level process. Using liquid gas has lots of advantages: Liquid gas is a clean, readily available and inexpensive fuel. And it is also ideal for this new technology, because the VeGA generates power very efficiently, quietly and with very little emission - round the clock, whatever the weather. These are clear advantages over generators and solar systems.

Visitors to the Caravan Salon can find out more about the product in an interactive show at the Truma stand in hall 13/C31 and can also place orders. All order received at the Truma exhibition stand will be given preferential treatment. Also, these VeGA customers will profit from an enhanced range of services. The fuel cell system is installed in the Truma service workshop in Putzbrunn or by authorised Truma dealers across Europe.
