Thumbs up Honda EU3000i Handi

I see Honda has come out with a new generator, the EU3000I Handi. Weighs like 80 lbs. Anybody have any experience with one of these? It looks like it will fill the gap between the EU2000i & an EU3000i (I own both by the way.) I'm tempted to buy one. At 1.5 gallions, the fuel tank seem a bit small however.

I'd think if they leave off the starter and battery it should cost less, not more.
That nifty folding handle would make a nice kick starter though.

see Honda genset weight loss program - a bit less noise reduction, smaller fuel tank, engine a bit smaller, - probably trying to compete with the Boily genset, maybe?

Kipor's had a 2600/2300 watt inverter model for a long time - 57 pounds & is less than $1K delivered...

Kipor 2600W, Home Garden items on eBay.com

The Kipors used to be a lot cheaper, two of those could be had for the same price as one EU2000...

Looks like a nice size package, though it will be a good bit noisier at 65 DB max. You may want to visit a dealer to listen to a test run of this unit at full throttle versus a generator that runs in the 55 to 58 DB range. The small tank is draw back....do you want to have your AC only run 1/2 the night? (same with Kipor 2600)

I did this with the Yamaha Ef2400is (58 Db) versus the Yamaha Ef2800i (65 Db). BIG difference! You can carry on a conversation within a few feet of a full throttle 2400, not so with the 2800. I ended up with the 2400 with a propane/natural gas option.

I played with one of these last weekend at a motorcycle rally at the Honda booth...they said it was only a week old! Nice but not a replacement for the full-sized eu3000is. The guy said that this unit is targeted for the tailgater crowd where lightweight and portability was a bigger concern. Running a stereo system, margarita machine and fans were the primary use cases versus over-nighting with a/c and microwave going.

BTW, during 4+ days in ~100 degree heat, my Honda 3000 purred right along on eco mode with only 1 refill. My neighbor's Champion kept stopping mysteriously every 4 hours and was problematic all weekend long.

I just purchased the Honda EU3000i Handi today. Does anyone have one of these? Are you happy with it?

Thanks Vinnie

How's the Handi working out for you Vinnie? We're thinking of purchasing one to take the place of our eu3000is.

Are you happy with it? Is it much louder than eu3000is? Did you purchase it from Wise Sales?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Your friends,

Gemma and Murray

Hi...

I had to take it back to Northbay motorsports because is wouldnt startup my 2 hp aircompressor on my truck. The compressor would run really slow to start and sometimes pick up speed. No bueno.. So I bought two eu2000i's.. one of them is the companion that I run in parallel. Now the compressor starts up and if I only need one generator I fire up the companion by itself. Works really well and Im happy with the performance.

Vinnie

Thanks for the insight Vinnie.

It looks like we might be ordering a parallel cable for our two eu2000's. Much cheaper than shelling out the $2200 for the Handi.

Glad to hear they're working out for you.

I was talking to a Honda rep who said they are considerably noisier than the other choices

Thanks for the insight Marshall. Looks like a parallel cable is in our future.

Honda EU2000is

Sounds like you all know your generators. I bought the pair last weekend of Eu2000i and companion for my 25ft AS. Couple of questions. I put on eco mode after a while and once of them puttered out with the AC came on. Can you run them off eco mode without damaging them? If so, for how long? I hooked up one just to run the television and it puttered out too. Didn't know if I needed to run the battery at the same time, but wouldn't think one set of lights and a tv would wear it out. Any thoughts?

How long did this happen after you started your generators. It sounds like you may have forgotten to open the vent on the gas cap. If you don't do this, the generators will act like they ran out of gas after about 5-10 minutes.

Depending on your air conditioner, you may need to run your generators with ECO mode turned off. Some air conditioners will start at the lower RPM until the generators spin up, and some won't. Running with ECO mode turned off won't hurt anything; it just shortens the run time before refueling.
