Help! No 12 Volt or Electricity Mid Cabin!

Hello folks -

We're getting our 70's Airstream ready for Burning Man and were testing systems and found that we don't have 12V or electricity mid cabin! The overhead cabin light, over sink light, water pump, outside scare light and exterior over door light don't function, either with 12V or electricity.

We've tested the interior lights and the water pump and our tester shows that they are receiving voltage. We've taken out light bulbs in the non functioning fixtures and tested them in the trailer's functioning light fixtures and they work. We've flipped the two light switches by the front door on and off and they don't seem to control anything. Our control panel lights up and the switch to the water pump seems to work. The battery is fully charged.

All other fixtures and outlets seem to work in the trailer.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Sounds like a fuse burned. Where is your fuse panel?

You didn't mention fuses. Have you checked them? Our mid-'70s had trouble with fuses...

Ah, yes, thank you. We did check the fuses. Replaced all of them just in case.

Breaker box - checked as well. Flipped the switches. Nothing seems amiss.

Then the next thing to consider is a loose ground on that circuit.

OK, that's good. What model of trailer do you have, by the way?

Are you still using the original converter, the infamous 'Univolt'? If so, please have a close look at the fuseholders, and the wire that attaches to them. Look for burnt insulation, and wiggle the fuse in the holder to see if the lights come on. Remember, it's only 12 volts, so unlikely to hurt you.
