Ok I am about to order a power converter for my 73 31' Sovereign, I was checking out the one on Vintage Airstreams web site. The 60 amp Progressive Dynamics INTELI-POWER 9260CV , also I was going to order the 12 Volt DC fuse panel to go with it.
I havent taken out me Univolt yet,,,, to darn cold Here in Northern Kentucky.
What I am asking is ... am I making the right choice on my purchase?
thank you
Joe

Joe -- the sixty amp unit should definatly cover you since you can only bring 50 amp into your AS!

The 60 amp converter is referring to 12volt amps not the 110volt feed amps If you are planning on running a lot of 12v items (lights, stereo, entertainment system, furnace, vent fans, fridge, etc) off the converter you might need even more. FWIW my 70's vintage came with a 40-45 amp converter. I do plan to replace it with a 60amp. I am not sure but it may also have a bearing on how much power can be dedicated to recharging your batteries too.

Yes, that is a good selection. I have the 55 amp Intellipower and it does everything I ask of it.

Aaron is exactly right...30 or 50 amp AC service has nothing to do with DC output of the converter.
A good rule of thumb we use is length of RV and number of batteries you plan to charge, assuming there are no excessive aftermarket DC accessories like huge sound systems.
With all new converters, all of the rated output is available for charging, less whatever DC load you have running. For a shorter RV, maybe 19-23 feet and one battery, 35 to 45 amps is all you will need. 23-31 footers would probably benifit from the 45 to 65 amp models, If you have two batteries, lean toward the higher amp side. One important note however is the converter to battery wiring needs to be rated for the amperage if you go with a larger unit.
Hi Joe,
Could you please direct me to the site that you are ordering the items from? I looked at the Vintage Airstream site and could not find the place you mentioned. Thanks.
Chapparel,
I am sorry I mentioned the wrong website. it is vintagetrailersupply.com
Also try Randy's site: www.bestpowerconverter.com. He is very knowledgeable in his products and a nice guy too. I believe that he gives the Forum members a discount too.
